EDUCATORS
Every year we receive thousands of applications to review from students all over the country. We are always blown away by the amazingly talented students that apply to our program, and grateful for the dedication of their educators that have spent countless hours devoted to working with them. Educators play a vital role in helping us achieve our goal of nurturing and supporting young artists. It is through the educators that most students learn about the YoungArts program and are encouraged to register. On a more basic level, the large pool of gifted, passionate and highly trained young artists is a testament to the educators who have worked with them for years. It is educators who make a program like YoungArts possible.
Each year we contact every high school in the country in our search of the most talented young artists. We work closely with educators to keep them informed of our registration deadlines, events, and other opportunities available through the YoungArts Program.
We encourage educators to get our information out to students. A simple and effective way to get the word out is to download and post this YoungArts flyer by clicking
here You can also order our DVDs and show them in class and make them available to students, and/or request a school visit from one of our experienced YoungArts Programs staff members. We also provide a group registration form that allows educators to register multiple students for the YoungArts program.
Participation in the YoungArts program leads to many opportunities for students. Approximately 6,000-8,000 students register for the YoungArts program every year. Of these, about About 10 percent receive awards, and up to 150 finalists are chosen to come to Miami for YoungArts Week, an all-expense-paid week of master classes, showcase performances, exhibitions, enrichment programs, and final adjudications.
The annual Presidential Scholars in the Arts honorees are selected solely from YoungArts Finalists. Each year, YoungArts nominates up to 60 YoungArts Finalists for consideration by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, and 20 are selected as Presidential Scholars in the Arts. These students travel to Washington DC to receive a Presidential Meddallion at a White House ceremony, perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and display their work at the Smithsonian Museum. A truly life changing experience for any young artist.
As soon as students register for YoungArts, their names are provided, through our Scholarship List Service, to a large group of institutions offering scholarships in the arts. For this reason, we advise early registration (by June 1). YoungArts participants are eligible for approximately $3 million in college scholarships.
